Small mouth bass is a new face in Niigata.

Though both of large mouth and small mouth bass are foreign fish, Small mouth bass is a new face in Niigata. Small mouth lives only in the Uchinokura Lake in Niigata Prefecture. Trout anglers hate small mouth bass.

Trout anglers in Japan dislike large mouth and small mouth bass. As large mouth bass lives warmer waters and does not invade trout waters often, most trout anglers overlook it. But small mouth lives in coolers water and often invade trout waters. When trout fishing is closed, trout anglers in Japan earnestly fish and kill small mouth bass.

In Niigata Prefecture and some other Prefectures, Catch and release of these bass are prohibited to get rid of them. Japanese people like fish dishes, but most do not eat bass, for these are foreign fish and not familiar with us. Bass is killed and thrown away. Though Buddha may forgive us for killing and eating, killing and not eating is a massacre. I feel pity. I will eat bass for their salvation.
