Rockfish fishing is popular in spring. Rockfish lives in the rocky shores. Though we do not have such places in Niigata City, we can enjoy rockfish fishing. There are some big breakwaters in Niigata East Port and West Port. These are nice spots to fish it.
Rockfishes are nocturnal. So you had better go fishing in the evening or early in the morning.

Pic.1 shows the West Breakwater of the Niigata West Port. There are many concrete blocks and these are good structures. Many rockfishes live there.
I usually use plastic worms and jig heads. Cast a lure, count down, and retrieve it. Then a rockfish will bite it.
I went to the West Breakwater early on the morning of March 27. It was a fine and calm morning. I could get seven black rockfishes ( Pic.2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 ) and two greenlings ( Pic.3 and 8 ). Almost of these fishes were about 30 cm in length. These were relatively good size in my place.

Rockfish dishes are delicious and my family likes it. The supper of that day was pleasant.
