I enjoyed masu salmon fishing. Then I enjoyed seabass fishing in Niigata West Port in July 2001.
Niigata West Port is on the river mouth of the Shinano River. Seabass fishing spots are the tip portion of the west breakwater. Anglers cast lures to the river mouth from it. Look at the map below. The best spots are 1, 2, 3 and 4 in this map.

Pictures below show the brekwater. You see the red lighthouse in the center of the left picture. The river mouth of the Shinano is right of it. The white lighthouse is in the right picture. This is standing on the other side of the river mouth. Anglers stand on blocks by the breakwater and cast lures. It is difficult to land a big one here. You need a landing net with a long shaft.

In July 2001, I got only four seabasses. In this period, three rankers were fished by others ; one was 95 cm and other two were over 80 cm in length.
My biggest one was only 70 cm in length. I want to get more bigger seabass in autumn. Pictures of my games are shown below.

I fished those games with lures. Lures are also in pictures with seabass. Japanese anglers like to use lures with "a red head and a white body" colored. We call those "Red Head". I do not know why we use this color pattern. But it is effective color pattern in Seabass fishing. Try it.
